Halb Berlin hat Angst die Wohnung zu verlieren. Mietenwahnsinn – eine existenzielle Bedrohung. Seit Jahren kämpfen Aktive und Initiativen dagegen – welche gemeinsamen Strategien, Forderungen und Aktionen braucht es für eine Stadt für alle? Die Interventionistische Linke Berlin stellt ihre Vorschläge für eine sozialistische Stadt vor, beantwortet Fragen und diskutiert gemeinsam mit dem Publikum.

Laut einer Umfrage befürchten 47% der Berliner*innen wegen Mietsteigerungen ihre Wohnung zu verlieren. Insbesondere seit der Finanzkrise 2008 ist die Hauptstadt zur Beute geworden – aus aller Welt flüchten Kapital und Investor*innen ins „Betongold“. Wurde anfangs noch gegen Hipster und Studierende geschimpft, so haben Viele inzwischen begriffen, dass nicht andere Mieter*innen sondern die Eigentümer*innen das Problem schaffen: Der Wohnraum als Ware und die Immobilie als Spekulationsobjekt sind die Quellen unserer Angst. Weil die Mietwohnungen uns nicht gehören, kann man sie uns wegnehmen. Doch die Eigentumswohnung ist nur für wenige der Besitzer ein Gebrauchswert, den sie selber nutzen. Wer könnte auch 100.000 Wohnungen - so viele besitzt die Deutsche Wohnen AG, Berlins größter Vermieter - selber bewohnen? Für sie und andere sind Wohnungen nur ein Geschäft. Je größer die Nachfrage und damit die Wohnungsnot, desto größer der Marktwert und damit der Profit.

Doch wie kommen wir raus aus dieser Misere? Muss es mehr Regulierung geben? Mietenstopp? Bauen, Bauen, Bauen? Rekommunalisierung, Vorkaufsrecht – oder gleich enteignen? Wir sind überzeugt, dass die Zeit reif ist, gemeinsam einen neuen Schritt zu tun, sich eine konkrete Utopie zu eigen zu machen, für die wir gemeinsam kämpfen. Unser Diskussionsvorschlag richtet sich deshalb an all jene Menschen, die mit uns für ein besseres Berlin kämpfen wollen.

Strategies for a socialist city

Half of Berlin is afraid of losing its apartment. Rent madness - an existential threat. For years, activists and initiatives have been fighting against it - what common strategies, demands and actions are needed for a city for all? The Interventionist Left Berlin presents its proposals for a socialist city, answers questions and discusses them together with the audience.

According to a survey, 47% of Berliners fear losing their homes due to rent increases. Especially since the financial crisis of 2008, the capital has become a prey - capital and investors from all over the world are fleeing into "concrete gold". While at the beginning there was still scolding against hipsters and students, many have since understood that it is not other tenants but the owners who create the problem: Housing as a commodity and real estate as an object of speculation are the sources of our fear. Because the rented flats do not belong to us, they can be taken away from us. But the owner-occupied flat is only a utility value for a few of the owners, which they use themselves. Who could live in 100,000 apartments themselves - that's how many are owned by Deutsche Wohnen AG, Berlin's largest landlord? For them and others, apartments are just a business. The greater the demand and thus the housing shortage, the greater the market value and thus the profit.

But how do we get out of this misery? Must there be more regulation? Capping of rents? Build, build, build? Recommunalization, right of first refusal - or immediate expropriation? We are convinced that the time is ripe to take a new step together, to embrace a concrete utopia for which we are fighting together. Our discussion proposal therefore aims at all those who want to fight with us for a better Berlin.
